Celebrating Shield's Women In Pharmacy

Happy Women Pharmacist Day! Please join us as we recognize and celebrate the significant gains women have made in pursuing careers in Pharmacy and their contributions in delivering quality care to patients nationwide.

In honor of Women Pharmacist Day, we have asked our female pharmacists to tell us why they love being a pharmacist, and the responses were overwhelming. Check out just a few of the responses we received below!

Danielle Jackson, PharmD (8)Why I love being a Pharmacist...

"I have always had a passion for the science of medicine and helping people. As a pharmacist, I am proud to be able to make a difference in how my patients feel through unhurried conversation and thorough medication reviews. I love being able to provide the support and education patients need in order to have more successful and informed treatments."

Danielle Jackson, PharmD (3)Why I love being a pharmacist...
"I love being a pharmacist because we get to help patients and families navigate the complicated and confusing world of medicine. It's humbling and rewarding to have a patient say "Thank you for taking the time to explain this to me." Secondly, the world of pharmacy is never stagnant, and we are responsible for keeping up with innovations in our field (which happen everyday!). These innovations keep me motivated to learn more, so that I can provide the best care for patients."

Danielle Jackson, PharmD (11)Why I love being a pharmacist...
"I love being a pharmacist because I love that it allows me to be the best version of myself. It allows me to "fill in the gaps" where they are needed, to express empathy/patience to improve our patients' overall being, to be able to listen "in-between the lines" for both our patients/providers and to be apart of the ever-changing landscape of medicine. Waking up every day to feel like I am the missing piece of the puzzle is a great way to live life!"

Danielle Jackson, PharmD (5)Why I love being a pharmacist...
"I love that I can help educate and empower patients regarding their healthcare  while at home. It's important for my patients to understand the purpose of their medication and goals so they can feel more comfortable and included in therapy decisions."

Why I love being a pharmacist...Danielle Jackson, PharmD (6)
"I love being a pharmacist because it has provided me an avenue to provide useful information to patients and healthcare team members and impact lives by being an accessible healthcare provider to those who would otherwise not seek care. I appreciate the pharmacy's ever-changing landscape and the requirement to stay up to date to provide our patients with the best quality care. I am so blessed to work in this profession- where everyday, I am able to serve someone else."

Danielle Jackson, PharmD (7)Why I love being a pharmacist...
"The innovation of medicine keeps me on my feet, but it's the patient care that make it real. I love that in healthcare, you are forced to keep learning on a daily basis. But for me, being able to share that information, educate, and create understanding is my passion. Pharmacy creates an environment where I can learn new things everyday, while also allowing me to share what I learn with my patients: to challenge them, and give them tools to guide them through their healthcare journey. I am a pharmacist because I can take something as dynamic as pharmacy and bring it back to a patient-level to lead authentic conversations that can make a difference."

Danielle Jackson, PharmD (10)Why I love being a pharmacist...
"I am a pharmacist because of my interest in medicine and love for patient care. Being a pharmacist has helped me grow both in the profession and as an individual. At Shields, my disease state knowledge has grown significantly by being part of interdisciplinary teams (whether directly with MD/PA/NP's or with social workers, PT/OT's, etc.). Being able to apply that knowledge to better help my patients is what  rings me joy. Whether it be calming their nerves before starting a new chemotherapy agent, recommending mitigation tactics to help with biologic side effects, or just being an outlet for them to talk to, that's why I'm a pharmacist."
